Imagine

Last Friday, I was on my way to the office when a man with his grandchild he’s carrying rode along with me in the elevator. We got out from the elevator then I realized it will be difficult for him to open the door. So, I got the door first and hold it longer for him until they got out. He thanked me, and it feels good. That was just a simple act of kindness but it felt like it was one of the simplest things that could change the world. The man was not a brother in faith, nor a brother in nationality. But for the goodness of humankind, I did not look in our differences to prevent me from doing a simple act of kindness. Now I fully understand John Lennon’s Imagine.

Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

Nationality, Religion and possessions are some of the things that divide us -- our differences. These are the ones preventing us from doing our instinct to do well to others. If we could just neglect them and forget forever… If we could just live with;
No politics,
No debate on science and faith,
No war - unholy or not,
No fight for survival
No racial discrimination
No rich and poor
No powerful and helpless
No Religion and Tradition, that taught us to become unfair with women.
They say all we can do is imagine. But I guess not. I think we can do something. You may say I’m a dreamer too. But I believe dreams do come true. The world is not hopeless. The world can change. If I can do a simple thing for a change, I’m sure there’s more you can do. Little by little makes up a big thing. Forget our differences, do good to others, make love and peace.

People always talk about how their beliefs and ideologies are going to create peace and unity. But, of course, the truth is that beliefs and ideologies put up walls between people, rather than making those walls disappear.

Great post.
